Recently I popped in to visit my mum (“I’m 76 you know!”). She plopped down in her chair with eyes closed, “I hate this weather”. “Oh” I said, “you hate the rain and wind and snow also?” Pause, with one eye open, “I like the spring”. Personally, I’m torn between which season I love the […]
Usually, when I tell people about my holiday they say “how lovely”. Recently I was lucky enough to go to Antigua, however, it’s gone down like a brick, with responses like, “good for you” or “it’s alright for some!”. A holiday gives time for quiet reflection. Listening to other people’s conversations in restaurants (which he calls “rude”). […]
No really, it’s true – and it’s not just me that says so. In a survey in carried out in The Telegraph (2008) hairdressing was found to be in the top three happiest professions. I think it’s because we are able to be creative and receive words of affirmation at least once an hour.
The new guest shook my hand and asked have you got some pictures I could choose from. She then asked what was I doing for my holidays, how long have you been here then, without pausing for breath, asked what makes a great haircut and what do you think would suit me? She was nervous.
It’s not unusual for us to get a call that goes along the lines, “I’ve coloured my hair, can you help?”
What does love even mean? I’ve looked it up and the Oxford definition says…
