When I left school at the tender age of 15 I didn’t know what I wanted to do and no one else seemed to have any ideas either!

However, one person in my life spotted a potential in me to become a hairdresser. I will be forever grateful to my stepmother Margaret who introduced me to a career that has allowed me to earn, learn and care for people in ways I could never have imagined.

I now feel very fortunate to be able to pass these skills and opportunities to a new intake of ambitious apprentices each year. For over 42 years we’ve been helping students realise their dreams in an industry that regularly tops the charts for workplace happiness.

In August and September, I shall be looking to pay forward my good fortune to a new group of apprentices, so…
